A Vet Told Us Why Summer Scares Her More Than Winter for Stray Dogs.

A vet sent us the thermal image above with one sentence: “This is why summer scares me more than winter for stray dogs.”

That sentence made us look beyond what the image shows.

What is happening inside the dog’s body as the heat keeps rising?

The answer begins with the way dogs cool themselves.

Dogs Do Not Cool Themselves the Way Humans Do.

Humans can release heat by sweating across a large area of skin.

Dogs cannot do that.

Veterinary sources explain that dogs have sweat glands mainly on their paw pads. Those glands play only a small role in cooling.

Their primary way of releasing heat is panting.

Panting increases airflow over moist surfaces in the upper airways, especially the nasal passages. As water evaporates from those surfaces, heat leaves with it.

But that tiny circled area creates another problem with every breath.

Panting Releases Heat by Evaporating Moisture.

That cooling system depends on evaporation.

Evaporation removes water from the body.

During prolonged exercise, panting and fluid loss can lead to dehydration and acid-base or electrolyte imbalances. Those changes can contribute to fatigue.

Water loss matters because panting relies on evaporation.

And water is not the only thing a dog can lose by continuing to move.

Every Step Creates More Heat. Until an Abandoned Dog Is Too Weak to Search for Food.

Muscle activity generates heat. So every extra step gives the body even more heat to release.

A dog with a home can stop. Water, shade and food are close.

An abandoned dog may have to keep walking just to find his next meal.

But every step creates more heat, and every breath costs more water.

Eventually, he can become too weak to keep searching.

And a dog that stops searching stops eating.

That Is Why Rescue Paws Helps Bring Meals to the Streets.

We cannot change how a dog’s body handles the heat.

But we can help put food where abandoned dogs already live.

Each Rescue Paws bracelet helps us provide 10 meals to abandoned dogs through local partners on the ground.

They reach the places where dogs are still waiting for someone to show up.

And every month, we send you real photos from the feeding operations.

  • I absolutely love these bracelets! I ordered both the pink and black so I can match them with whatever I’m wearing, and I’ve been wearing them every day since they arrived.

The quality is really nice, they feel sturdy but still comfortable, and the little paw print charm is such a cute touch. They also came in adorable drawstring bags that feel surprisingly high quality.

What makes them even better is supporting a cause I actually care about. Knowing that my purchase is helping feed dogs in need makes me feel even better about wearing them.

    I’ll definitely be ordering more!

  • I have given 5 stars to Rescue Paws, simply because I did receive my bracelets all 6 of them. I will admit after ordering them I was afraid I was going to be scammed. Because it was taking to long for them to arrive, and then I was reading things on social media that they weren’t legit. So I sent an email explaining my doubt and Mary assured me they would arrive. They did with the cutest pouches to put each bracelet in and a card with each dogs name they have rescued to go inside the pouches to give as gifts. I was pleasantly please. So thanks for doing a good work for God’s creatures big and small.

  • I love the 3 bracelets I ordered. The quality is exceptional and I plan to give one to each of my grown children. It is a good way to rememebr our dog that recently passed away and to promote the cause behind the bracelets. We will all wear them proudly.

  • You are definitely a legitimate group that helps starving animals and I’m so grateful that I can be a part of this. Additionally, the bracelet I received in a timely manner and it brought tears to my eyes since I received it on Thanksgiving day and read about an animal I may have had a hand in helping; I was truly touched. I will do my best to support what you are doing in any way I can, and I will continue to spread the word. 🙏❤️to all that are on the ground helping these beautiful animals.
    Thank you,

  • Absolutely love the bracelet, very well made and looks lovely, I wear it all the time.
More importantly this is for a fantastic cause everytime I look at them I think of the dogs I have fed.
I got my first photos of the dogs I had helped feed & it made me smile knowing that I have helped them, not go hungry.
I want to also thank the fantastic volunteers & people at Rescue dogs who are making this happen.
    I bought 3 bracelets this time & have purchased another 3. So I have helped 60 dogs.🥰
